How to use the CellScrew®
The CellScrew® was developed for cultivating adherent cells in a dynamic system. With a maximized growth surface in a compact design, this cell culture flask streamlines your cell culture process in less vessels, reducing contamination risks and repetitive work.
1. Angle of the Bottle
The CellScrew® operates most effectively at an angle of 10-15° that complements the principles of the Archimedes Screw. Watch the video to learn how to set up the angle following inoculation.
Watch how to use the CellScrew® and get to know the most critical setup factors.
DO NOT use an angle higher or lower than 10-15°, incompatible with the Archimedes Screw, due to the risk of leakage.
2. Rotation Speed and Direction
Optimization of the cell culture process during incubation depends on a constant rotation with appropriate speed, which can be calculated with the instructions below. Make sure to set a clockwise rotation for your roller device as demonstrated in the videos.
The formula for the actual rotational speed [rpm] is:
(1 rotation / time measured for 1 rotation [s]) ∗ (60s / 1 min)
DO NOT set an incorrect rotational speed, as this can interfere with cell distribution, growth, and gas transport.
DO NOT rotate counter-clockwise to ensure a proper function of the Archimedes screw inside.
3. Tapping to Harvest
To support cell detachment following incubation with Trypsin, tap on the bottle with your hand or on the bench while rotating it clockwise. You can then proceed to harvest the culture.
DO NOT tap without rotating or shake extensively to avoid leakage and an improper detachment.
